Halloween 2016

capture

Who doesn’t love Halloween? Whether it be for the obscene amount of chocolate (my choice 🙂 ) or because you love to get your creative juices flowing and get a costume together.  I don’t typically dress up for Halloween but when I did; it was a generic costume from the party store and nothing authentic or homemade.  This year, totally on a whim, I decided to sit down and try to come up with something myself.  Keep in mind I’ve never done a Halloween makeup look before so online for inspiration I go.  Whoa was that overwhelming!!!  There are thousands upon thousands of pictures, costumes, themes, and makeup looks to choose from.  I thought I’d start my first year off slow and easy.  I’m hoping to learn and grow from what I did this year and do better next year.  It’s always a work in progress.  Any who, enough rambling!

I came up with three or four; however you want to look at it, makeup looks!

My looks:

  2. Gypsy skull
  3. Gangster skull, and
  4. Bloody Vampire

I hope you guys enjoyed these looks! I actually fell in love with the process of creating them.  I can see why so many artists and beauty vloggers love Halloween.  You don’t need face paint or special effects makeup to create any looks and you don’t need the best of the best.  As I mentioned before, all the products I used is actual makeup and super affordable.

Hope you guys have a fun and safe Halloween!!! (Stay away from the clowns!!)

July Favorites

Welcome summer!!! Ok no, not really; summers in Texas are BRUTAL!!!  I think July was one of the hottest months and August is falling really closely behind.  Since it has been so hot outside, I’ve been trying to keep my makeup pretty simple, however, there are those days when I get a little heavy handed.  My natural minimum makeup look goes right into a full on smoky eye and bright lip situation.  You can’t blame me…it is so simple for me to do.

With that being said, I wanted to share a few of my favorite makeup products, books and songs that I was loving in the month of July.  Some of these makeup products and songs are oldies but goodies for sure!!

Maybelline Color Tattoo Eye Chrome Eyeshadow™ Review

I wanted to share a quick review with you on Maybelline’s Color Tattoo Eye Chrome Eyeshadows™ that recently launched.  I have seen them on almost every beauty vlogger/blogger’s Instagram and Snapchat and from what was shown, they looked beautiful, so of course I had to try them myself.  I have used Maybelline’s Eye Studio Color Tattoo Eyeshadow™ before and liked it, however because it comes in a pot, it was harder to get the product out and I noticed it dried up quickly.

The packaging on the new Eye Chrome Eyeshadows, in my opinion, are so much better and easier to use. This metallic liquid eyeshadow comes with a doe-foot applicator which makes applying them a breeze.  I picked up a few at Ulta for $9.99 each.  The price is a bit high but you get a decent amount of product in each tube.  They come in ten different colors and I picked up the following five.

(Top to Bottom: Fools Gold, Beige Luster, Sharp Purple, Gilded Rise, and Electric Emerald)

Pros:

  • Pigmentation is absolutely AMAZING!!
  • Colors are rich and vibrant.
  • Easy application
  • Great, messy-free packaging
  • Good color selection
  • Long lasting – Just FYI, you’ll need a good makeup remover to get these off

Cons:

  • Cost
  • Too much is literally too much! One layer is ENOUGH when directly applying it to the lid; any more than that and they will start to clump up and flake off when you try to blend them in with other eyeshadows
    • Tip:  To avoid adding too much product to the lid, apply the shadow on to your finger and then apply to lid for an even coverage.
  • They dry within 10-15 seconds after applying so you must work fast (this could be a pro and a con; for me it’s con)

Here are swatches of the colors: Left: with flash and Right: without flash in natural day light.

Color used on lid is Beige Luster

Overall, the eyeshadows are long lasting and have amazing pigmentation. If you are looking for an easy, one swipe type eyeshadow, these are right up your alley!  They are a great way to add color to an everyday look without your eyeshadow becoming overwhelming.
